Marijuana Enforcement on 420

On Behalf of | Apr 19, 2019 | Marijuana Charges

The morning news today featured the picture of a large, beautiful green marijuana leaf shining in the sunlight. Tomorrow is 420 and colorful banners were flying in advance to commemorate the celebration. Even Carl’s Junior is getting into the act with their new 420 burger with CBD oil. Looks delicious by the way! No doubt the crowds will be enormous at that restaurant.

How can we then simultaneously suspend and expel young people from high school, University or middle school for having small amounts of marijuana? But this is exactly what is happening. Our culture, particularly in Colorado, has glamorized marijuana, the use and benefits of it for nearly everything that ails us, and Dionysus like celebrations of marijuana make it make it than hypocritical for our schools to react in horror when a 15 or 16-year-old is found to have a tiny bit of marijuana and a pipe in her or his locker at school. All while we are encouraging home delivery of marijuana and marijuana social clubs!
How can we glamorize marijuana to this extent and still feel it appropriate to punish our children so severely, sometimes with an indelible mark on their permanent record, for engaging in the use of marijuana. With huge ads offering the best prices for the strongest marijuana appearing on the front of every college newspaper how can we be punishing the readers for wanting to indulge? With beautiful marijuana leaves flying on the news, hamburger joints using it in their burgers, and the biggest marijuana celebration of the year happening tomorrow, isn’t it a bit hypocritical to make criminal out of our children for giving it a try?
